Alleged Harasser Questioned: 'However What If I Could Be Madeleine?'
A female indicted with pursuing Kate McCann apparently left her a phone message which questioned: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has repeatedly claimed she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are facing charges accused with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the court learned call records and information obtained from phones recorded Ms Wandelt repeatedly demanding Madeleine's mother for a DNA test over that period.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - when she was three years old during a family holiday in Portugal - is considered the most widely reported missing child cases and continues to be open.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
A separate phone message, presented in court, recorded Ms Wandelt stating: "I understand I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine was, but I believe what I feel."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's voicemail expressed: "What if there is a small chance that I am she? What happens next? Is that not crucial for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I have a existence here in Poland, I only wish to understand," the recording stated.
The panel was told that through emails, mobile messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, forwarded childhood photos to her phone in a bid to show a likeness to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
The investigator, an investigator with the police force who collated the evidence, told the court there "didn't appear to be any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore reached out to close associates of the McCanns, according to the phone records.
On October 9th, 2024, Gerry McCann responded to a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."
That day Ms Wandelt left a message on Mrs McCann's answerphone stating "I won't give up and I intend to demonstrate my claim."
The court was informed Mrs Spragg established a association through digital means with Ms Wandelt before assisting her on a appearance to the McCanns' residence in the county in December 2024.
Phone records revealed Mrs Spragg had communicated via communication app to Mrs McCann to say the press had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be considered genuine in the period leading up to the trip to that location, the county, in last December.
The court learned communications between the two defendants, in November 2024, discussing attempting to acquire Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her garbage or from cutlery at a restaurant.
"We must take action," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the appearance to their home, the defendant dispatched a message which said: "We find ourselves sitting outside the McCanns' residence with our headlights off like detectives. I had hoped to achieve this with Peter Andrew I hadn't anticipated I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The proceedings ongoing.
