Marnus Labuschagne Left Out from Australian One-Day International Squad Versus India
Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from Australia's three-match ODI series versus India, as in-form Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw receiving a surprise inclusion.
Recent Form Result in Exclusion
Labuschagne has been omitted from the one-day international squad after being dismissed for one in his two batting efforts during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a highest score of forty-seven in his last 10 ODI innings.
Labuschagne has featured in 68 one-day internationals and accumulated 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now work towards a Test team comeback in time for the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.
Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Changes
There have been indications of a resurgence with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw made a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.
Renshaw could to make his white-ball international debut in the upcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.
He has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also seeking a return to the Test team as Australia search for a solution to their top-order woes.
Bowling Additions and Fitness Updates
Fast bowler Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after being rested since excelling for Australia in the 3-0 Test series sweep of West Indies in July.
Big Bash star Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the lead up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.
Skipper Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he works to regain fitness from a spinal issue in time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.
Squad Selection Strategy and Fixtures
Australia have announced a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury sustained in New Zealand.
Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after scoring a hundred in the final game against New Zealand to clinch a two-nil victory last week.
“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test matches ahead.”
Australia’s three-game ODI series against India starts on October 19 in Perth, before the opponents play five T20 internationals from October 29.
