Flight operations have resumed at Edinburgh Airport following a significant air traffic control outage grounded all flights.

Every arrival and departure were stopped because of an IT issue that arose around 08:30.

Some passengers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac while the issue persisted.

Operations Restart with Continued Disruption

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

That said, significant disruption are anticipated to affect schedules. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with a host of additional flights subject to postponements.

An airport representative had initially projected that dozens of flights could be affected.

"Flyers are asked to contact their airlines for the current status on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.

Root of the Disruption

The problem was traced to the operational halt to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.

Travelers should still plan to check the status of their trip before departing to the terminal as residual delays are managed.
