Emerging athlete getting ready for major tournament

Kai Trump will have multiple prominent backers as she starts her first LPGA appearance on Thursday.

The 18-year-old athlete, who happens to be the granddaughter of a former US president, received a special exemption to participate at the Annika competition in Florida.

Her grandfather, a passionate golfer, owns several courses worldwide and frequently plays against Kai.

"He's fairly competent. I shouldn't elaborate but we play some close matches," she stated.

The golfer shared that her grandfather, who cannot attend, advised her: "Just stay calm."

"He practically told me to go out there and enjoy myself," she added.

"From my perspective, he's simply a regular grandfather. He can't make it this weekend. He's busy with running the country, so he's somewhat preoccupied."

As an amateur, the golfer has played in only three events this year and maintains ranking 461 in the American Junior Golf Association rankings.

However she's able to receive tips from golf legend, in a relationship with her mother.

"He is the greatest golfer worldwide," the young golfer said.

"And he's an even better person. He suggested me to go out there, have fun, adapting to whatever happens."

Kai will face several top competitors in the sport at this tournament, including second-ranked Nelly Korda, British golfer Hull, Lexi Thompson and last year's winner Lilia Vu.

The LPGA commented that involving Kai exposes golf to new audiences, especially with younger fans.

The social media influencer boasts a massive following and recently launched an exclusive apparel and wellness brand.

The competition starts at 5:30 PM GMT.
